UCTM participated in discussions on a national model for technology transfer

The Rector of UCTM, Prof. Senya Terzieva, and a representative of the University’s Centre for Technology Transfer took part in a discussion about the concept of developing a model for technology transfer at national level. The meeting, which took place on 20 May 2025 at the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI), was also attended by representatives of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, universities, centres of competence and excellence, Sofia Tech Park, and employer organizations.

The event was opened by Mr. Martin Danovski, Deputy Minister of Innovation and Growth. He noted the importance of a financial instrument for technology transfer, which is being structured and will be managed by the Fund of Funds.

“This year, all the prerequisites are in place to launch a new phase of technology transfer in Bulgaria. We will strive to create the most effective mechanism for transferring knowledge, skills, technologies and innovations from scientific organisations and infrastructures to business. This will be structured within the Ministry of Innovation and Growth through the Research, Innovation and Digitalisation for Smart Transformation Programme,” said the Deputy Minister during the meeting to discuss a national model for technology transfer.

The Director of the Directorate General “European Funds for Competitiveness” at the Ministry of Innovation and Growth, Iliana Ilieva, added that one of the major tasks of technology transfer is to introduce knowledge, skills and innovation into business. “This will lead to increased competitiveness and market presence for Bulgarian companies”, she said. The Directorate General also presented an idea for the creation of a coordination centre for all units that will participate in technology transfer. It will also help strengthen partnerships between science and business.
