About the event
On May 22, 2023 , in “Prof. Asen Zlatarov” hall of the University of Chemical Technology and Metallurgy – Sofia, an informational meeting was held for the start of Project BG-RRP-2.004-0002 “BiOrgaMCT“ (Bioactive Organic and Inorganic Advanced Materials and Clean Technologies) under the procedure: BG-RRP-2.004 – “Establishment of a network of research universities in Bulgaria” under National recovery and resilience plan. During the meeting, the scientific groups on the project, the expected results and the activities carried out so far were presented.
Main objective of the project is the enhancement of the research and development activities and the transformation of the University of Chemical Technology and Metallurgy into a leader in key scientific areas, with active international cooperations and important scientific achievements for society and industry.
In this regard, four scientific groups have been selected: 1. Organic functional materials, 2. Advanced Materials and Technologies, 3. Biologically active molecules – design, synthesis, extraction and study, 4. Clean Technologies to extend the life cycle of energy systems, as well as two new ones: 1. Photoanisotropic materials for polarization holography and photonics applications, 2. Study of biological activity of biomolecules, which fully correspond to the main goal and will help to achieve it.
The financing of the Strategic Research Program will lead to a serious upgrade of the results achieved so far in the scientific fields, as a minimum 20% increase in the number of scientific publications /indexed in WoS/ is expected by 31.12.2025 compared to 2020.
An overall increase in the research potential and capacity of UCTM is expected – in scientific and organizational terms; increase in participation in international, European and national programs, incl. in “Horizon Europe” programme and better cooperation with other research universities and their inclusion in one united network.
The total budget of the project is BGN 20,000,000, 100% grant and the implementation period is 42 months: from 01.01.2023 to 30.06.2026.
