Technology transfer and commercialization of technologies

2024

About the course

The Technology transfer and commercialization of technology course is organized by The Edge: Research & Business Development.

The aim of the training is the innovative transformation of applied, scientific and technological knowledge into commercial products and services. Learners will evaluate real-world technologies and their commercial potential in terms of licensing and/or enterprise development. Concepts related to technology and its commercialization are examined. Practices are introduced to improve and accelerate the commercialization process – from the decisions made by scientists in scientific laboratories, through the development, patenting and licensing of new technologies to the formation of entrepreneurial enterprises (spin- offs). The training includes lectures, discussions and practical sessions, as well as meetings with experts practicing technology commercialization. The classes will use real scientific research for commercialization in fields such as information technology, chemistry, biotechnology and nanotechnology.

The course is designed for students from all three levels of study – bachelors, masters, doctoral students, for teachers and scientists, for supervisors and post-graduate teachers who are interested in the transfer of research work in business, a career in intellectual property management or start-up development.

Upon completion of the training, 3 of the best research projects will be selected and awarded with free participation and mentorship in The Edge: R&BD Beyond pre-accelerator – a 6-month program that supports the commercialization of scientific developments up to the point of prototype development and presenting them to investors.

The training was assigned by UCTM in connection with the implementation of Contract No.: BG-RRP-2.004-0002-C03, “BiOrgaMCT” (Bioactive Organic and Inorganic Advanced Materials and Clean Technologies) under the procedure “Establishment of a network of research universities in Bulgaria”.
